Bruce Barrett Biography

I was born in San Francisco, and although I've traveled extensively, I've always lived in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Even before high school I purchased and started playing with a "contact printer" for making prints without an enlarger. In high school my parents allowed me to build a darkroom by doubling the size of the downstairs bathroom. I did this by demolishing and moving a wall to create a black and white darkroom. -- How's that for great parents!

My computer career started in 1975 and continues to this day. I've worked for such companies as Apple, General Magic, Commodore (Amiga), and currently ebrary.

For History of cameras used please see the Equipment section.

My love of nature, backpacking, bicycling, anf the great outdoors was fostered by my parrents growing up, with a lot of wonderful backpack trips in Yosemite.

I'm married to Joy Rowan whos work can be found at: Joyful Greetings.

Artist's Statement

The things that thrill me about photography are the ability to capture and share a moment in time and place, and then the ability to expose others to things they otherwise just wouldn't see. Sometimes this is manifested by capturing otherwise inaccessible landscapes, and other times it's getting in close to everyday objects. The goal is still the same, look at the world around you with new eyes and see what marvels are there. I find it truly wondrous!
